I've been baffled by some less than pleasant reviews for this shop, which I can only conclude are less than accurate or truthful. On the many visits to Nantucket Toy Company, my experiences could not be more different. I look forward to my next trip to this gem on Nantucket Island.
Nantucket Toy Company is one of those rare shops you come across, a unique & special toy shop with friendly staff and an owner who is always so helpful in assisting me in selecting gifts. She always has several suggestions & she listens - It's so refreshing to shop where the staff is concerned about you in the long-term as a customer, not just in making a quick sale.
My 3 year old is still scared of the owner of this awful establishment. This toy store does not allow strollers, can you imagine that? A toy store that doesn't allow strollers. She was extremely rude and screamed at us the second we entered, you are too big for this store please leave. We were horrified by her behavior but have heard that she is known to be very nasty. Stay away! There are so many wonderful stores with owners that are welcoming and sweet. As a mother of 4 who lives on this island, I will never give her my business.
Yes, stollers are discouraged, it is posted on the door, but that would make sense, since it would be impractical to bring one in such a busy, small shop. I personally witnessed several customers with strollers on sunday & the owner politely overlooked their presence.
The owner has amazing patience with kids, interacting with them, asking their names and what they like, etc. God Bless her! People leave their kids to tear apart this sweet shop, leaving the staff and owner with a mess to pick up. When I commented on how patient she is, she just smiled and said "it's all good". When I noticed a few negative reviews here and I really wanted to speak up, as our experiences have never been any but wonderful. Don't pay attention to these bad reviews, which clearly have an agenda.
Undermined her employees ability to help us or know location of items in store, muttering she just started here, even though the girl knew perfectly where things were. Condescending comments to myself and other customers. It does not set a good example to kids or customers.
Nantucket Toy Company is a great shop and the owner and her staff work relentlessly to make it so.
